My Anime List top 20

My Anime List is my personal favorite must-see animes. I’m a 35-year-old guy that has seen a lot of anime throughout my life, and these are my favorite fun and action-packed animes.

I mostly watch Shounen Jump, that’s the kind of anime where you have a (HERO) that starts off really weak and slowly turns into one of the strongest characters in the story.

How I got into anime was by watching “Avatar the Last Airbender” on tv, and one of my friends asked me if I had ever watched anime, I said no and she told me to give “Naruto” a chance……That changed my LIFE….

I never thought that I could get so hooked on a “Cartoon” I’m a former soldier and I’m not an introvert, I have always been one of the wild boys driving superbikes and partying a lot.

I thought anime was for introvert nerds with no friends (I am not judging anybody) I have also been a gamer most of my life so some of my best friends are “Introvert nerds”. Well, I’m kinda a nerd too, I work with apps, websites and have a Tech company with two friends.

This is just my way to tell people who should find this site that, anime is for everybody! the stories are just soo good and the fights (I like fights) are better than any Hollywood movie ever produced.

THIS IS MY ANIME LIST AND MY FAVORITE SERIES… and it’s stupidly hard to rank them in order but I will try 🙂

20. Magi: Adventure of Sinbad

Episodes: 25 Status: Ended Year: 2013

Magi: Adventure of Sinbad Sinbad is a boy living in the Parthevia Empire, Sinbad’s father dies in the war against the Reim Empire when he is young, after this, he spends his time tending to his ill mother and sheltering sick people. One day by coincidence he helps the mysterious Yunan a Magi “Genie” and Yunan in return starts helping Sinbad.

Yunan helps guide Sinbad and push him to challenge the Dungeon “Baal” between Partevia and Reim. These Dungeons have massive treasures but were still unclaimed though warriors from both empires had challenged it, and none of them survived.

Sinbad now sets out to conquer Baal and the Djinn residing there to become the first-ever Dungeon Capturer.

19. Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic

Episodes: 25 Status: Ended Year: 2013

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic a mysterious boy called Aladdin travels around the world with his “friend” Ugo, a Djinn that lives inside Aladdin’s flute. One day he meets Alibaba Saluja, a young man trying to explore the nearby dungeon “Amon” and claim the treasures.

While trying to capture Amon and the treasure they meet the beautiful Morgiana, who will follow their story from thereon.

18. Magi: The Kingdom of Magic

Episodes: 13 Status: Ended Year: 2016

Magi: The Kingdom of Magic After a celebration of the victory against Al-Thamen, Aladdin announces that he needs to head out for Magnostadt, a mysterious country ruled by magicians.

Alibaba and Morgiana also set off to train and get stronger, Alibaba leaves to train with the Yambala Gladiators in the Reim Empire to improve his skills and achieve his complete Djinn Equip, Morgiana travels to the Dark Continent to finally visiting her homeland.

17. The Seven Deadly Sins

Episodes: 76 Status: Ongoing Year: 2014

The Seven Deadly Sins starts with Elizabeth, a young woman seeking the “Seven Deadly Sin” knights, to help her stop the Holy knights from taking over her kingdom. By accident, she stumbles into a tavern, and that tavern is owned by non-other than the Seven Deadly Sins Leader Meliodas.

The problem is the “Sins” dispanded 10 years earlier, so now Elizabeth and Meliodas travel out to find the rest of the Sins. Elizabeth doesn’t know but Meolidas is no ordinary knight, he is, in reality, the cursed son of a powerful demon, which will bring them in great danger more than once.

16. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

Episodes: 64 Status: Ended Year: 2009

This Anime follows the two alchemist brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric. They are on a quest to restore their bodies after a failed attempt to bring their mother back to life. The attempt took one of Edward’s arms and a leg and Alphonse’s whole body leaving him bound to a knights armor.

The brothers decide to burn their childhood house down, and head to the capital city to become government-sanctioned State Alchemists. After passing the exam, Edward gets the nickname “Fullmetal Alchemist” by the military, and the brothers begin their quest to get back their bodies by finding the Philosopher’s Stone.

15. Boruto

Episodes: 160 Status: Ongoing Year: 2018

Boruto is the sequel to Naruto. Here we follow Naruto’s son Boruto and his path towards the Chûnin exams.

Boruto attends the Hidden Leaf Village’s Ninja Academy just like his father did, so he also one day can become a great leaf ninja. Boruto gets cursed in a fight and awakens a special eye technique, which can detect evil energy in people.

14. Mob Psycho 100

Episodes: 25 Status: Ended Year: 2018

Shigeo Kageyama Aka Mob is a normal school boy, or that is what it seems like, in fact, he is a powerful “esper” with immense psychic powers.

He always has to be careful not to get too excited, because when he does, he completely loses control and that can be very dangerous for people around him.

Kageyama works for a local “Psychic” con-man Reigen Arataka, that has no real powers, but Kagayama thinks he has and wants to learn how to control his own power. Arataka exploits Kageyama’s powers and together they encounter real psychic monsters around the country.

13. Tokyo Ghoul

Episodes: 48 Status: Ended Year: 2017

One day Ken Kaneki gets attacked by a “Ghoul” a vampire-like monster, that feeds on human flesh and blood, he barely survives the attack and is rushed to the hospital where they give him organ transplants to save his life, what they don’t know is that the organs they use, are from a Ghoul and this turns our main character into a half-Ghoul.

Now to survive he also has to consume human flesh like a normal ghoul and after a while, he meets other Ghouls who work at a coffee shop and some of them help him to deal with his new life as a half-ghoul monster.

12. Sword Art Online

Episodes: 88 Status: Ended Year: 2013

In a future where Virtual Reality is the most exciting thing in the world, we follow Kazuto “Kirito” Kirigaya and Asuna Yuuki, two young people who live more in Virtual Reality than the real world.

They both sign up to a new game called “Sword Art Online” a game that uses “NerveGear”, a helmet that stimulates the user’s five senses via their brain, but something strange happens, after the player’s login to the game, they get caught in there and can’t get out.

The only way to get out without getting brain damage or die is to beat all the levels and finish the game. One other thing is that if you die in the game, you die in the real world too.

11. Fairy Tail

Episodes: 328 Status: Ended Year: 2011

Natsu Dragneel a young boy that was raised by a Dragon named Igneel is not our only main character in the anime, the story actually follows Lucy Heartfilia a young girl from a rich and powerful family who wants to become a wizard.

Lucy runs from her home trying to find a magic guild to join, and on her way, she meets Natsu, a powerful Mage of the Fairy Tail Guild. Lucy joins this guild and with the help of Natsu and Happy “A flying cat” their adventures can finally start.

In this world, other Guilds are out there and not all of them are good, some of them are called “Dark Guilds” and they are built of criminals and evil wizards who only want power and more money. These Guilds are some of the enemies of our Guild Fairy Tail.

10. Dragon Ball

Episodes: 639 Status: Ongoing Year: 1986

Dragon Ball, the “Mother” of Shounen Anime. Goku a young monkey-tailed boy, heads out with his teenage friend Bulma to find the “Dragon Balls“. Magical balls that will grant you a wish if you gather all five of them, and here the adventure starts.

Goku turns into a giant monster ape when the light of a full moon hits his body, Who he is and where he comes from is a mystery, but he is stronger than any human out there and tests it out in martial arts competitions.

Dragon Ball Z, Goku is now a young man with powers like no other, he protect the people he love and trains hard every day to get even stronger. People from out of space start to challenge him and endanger earth, Goku is suddenly not the strongest anymore and has to step up his game not to get killed.

With the help of all his friends like Piccolo, Gohan, and Krillin, he tries to protect earth from destruction. Later Goku finds out that he is a Saiyan, and originally sent to destroy Earth as an infant, but because of a head injury he didn’t.

9. Black Clover

Episodes: 136 Status: Ongoing Year: 2017

Black Clover is a magical anime that surrounds a world where most people get born with magical powers.

Asta, our main character is born without any magical powers while Yuno “his brother” is incredibly gifted and powerful. Both of them want to be Magical Knights and head out to get their Grimoire (Spellbook).

At the Grimoire ceremony, most of the other kids get a Three-leaf clover Grimoire which stands for Faith-Hope-Love, Yuno gets chosen by a Four-leaf clover Grimoire, the same as the “First Wizard King” said to be filled with immense power and good luck. Later in a fight with a villain, Asta finally gets his Grimoire but it’s a Five-leaf clover, the Five-leaf clover is said to hold a “Demon” instead of good luck like Yuno’s.

They now head out in rivalry both of them to become the next Wizard King, their first stop is the Magical wizard entry exam.

8. One Piece

Episodes: 931 Status: Ongoing Year: 1999

One Piece, the best action-adventure anime in the world.

Monkey D. Luffy, the young boy who ate a Gum-Gum fruit that gave in rubber powers, people who eat Devil-Fruits get strange powers that make them really strong.

This is the story of Luffy, a boy who sets sails to explore the world, become the next Pirate King, and find the One Piece. Luffy wants to assemble a crew for his journey and his ship, he wants to explore the great oceans and different parts of the world. On his way, he meets Roronoa Zoro, also known as “Pirate Hunter” Zoro, he is a swordsman and becomes the first member of Luffy’s Straw Hat Pirates.

Luffy is a pirate… but pirates don’t have to be bad in this anime, but no matter if you are good or bad the Navy will hunt you.

7. Death Note

Episodes: 37 Status: Ended Year: 2006

Death Note … this is one heck of a story. In the town of Tokyo, Light Yagami finds a strange notebook (The Death Note) The book’s former owner is non-other than “Ryuk” The Japanese god of death.

He now learns that this notebook has the ability to kill people just by writing their name and knowing their face.

Light can’t control the temptation and starts killing criminals and convicts around the world, making them suffer from heart attacks inside prisons. Panic starts to spread and the police soon starts to suspect something is wrong with all these heart accidents.

This is an absolute must-see anime, it’s a psychological thriller anime with a lot of brutal twists along its way.

6. Attack on Titan

Episodes: 59 Status: Ongoing Year: 2013

Attack on Titan is set way back in a future world, people live behind giant walls protected from the outside because on the outside there is (Titans) Giant human-looking monsters that feed on human flesh. Where they come from is a mystery and who built the walls is also unknown in this epic and beautiful anime.

Our main character is Eren Jaeger, he lives in the town of Shiganshina, own of the most exposed towns in regards to Titans. The walls that protect everybody is built in multiple circles, and Eren lives at the one closest to the Titans called Wall Maria.

After an incident with the wall, Eren’s family gets killed and he enlists in the military, here they train soldiers to combat the Titans and protect the residents in the city.

One day after he graduates they get into a fight with a Titan and Eren gets eaten, but somehow he survives and manages to control the Titan’s body, this is absolutely unheard of and higher-ranking officers see Eren as a potential tread to everybody.

After this incident, Eren is able to transform into a Titan to fight other Titans, nobody knows how he does it but after the walls get breached by new and stronger Titans, people are happy to have Eren on their side.

5. Bleach

Episodes: 366 Status: Ongoing Year: 2004

The 15-year-old high school student Ichigo Kurosaki starts to see ghosts and monster (Hollows) one day, he meets a “Soul Reaper” Rukia Kuchiki, she is from the Soul Society and she is there to fight the Hollow.

One day Ichigo’s family gets attacked by a Hollow and Rukia gets hurt and can’t fight it, Rukia tries to lend Ichigo some of her powers but ends up with Ichigo taking all her powers, this is how he becomes a cross between a human and a Soul Reaper.

Ichigo finds out that the Soul Society’s job is to protect the world from these Hollows, every time a human dies Hollows will try to eat their soul, and this is where Soul Reapers come into the picture, they protect the souls so they can pass on.

The Soul Society has extremely powerful fighters and most of them don’t like Ichigo and Won’t accept him as a real Soul Reaper.

4. My Hero Academia

Episodes: 88 Status: Ongoing Year: 2016

In a world of superheroes, Izuku Midoriya is probably one of the biggest superhero fans out there, but something ain’t right Midoriya was born without any “Quirk“(superpower). Most people in this world have some kind of power but not our main character.

Midoriya lives and breaths for superheroes, he knows pretty much everything about all of them, and especially his favorite! the strongest of them all Toshinori Yagi aka “All Might”.

Although Midoriya doesn’t have any quirks his dream is still to enroll in the Hero Academy and learn what it takes to be a real hero.

One day Midoriya ends up getting rescued by his hero All Might, which takes a liking to the young boy and lets him inherit the world’s most powerful quirk “All for One”. Soon after Midoriya gets the power he enrolls the Hero Academy and gets his hero name DEKU.

This is a super action-packed anime where all the students at The Hero Academy, get training and ends up in all sorts of fights with villains and other schools all the time. This is really one of the best new animes I have watched in a long time and I highly recommend it.

3. Naruto

Episodes: 500 Status: Ended Year: 2007

Naruto is one of the animes on my anime list that means the most to me, it’s just a fantastic story about Naruto, a young orphan boy that has a dream of becoming the next “Hokage” the leader of their town.

Shinobi villages fight and go to war with each other, that is just how this world is, but Naruto has a dream, he wants to bring peace, Naruto wants people to be happy and he’s willing to fight to make it happen.

There is a secret about Naruto and who he really is, he is strong but not as gifted as many others, but when he gets pushed to the limit, something dark takes over his body and he loses control.

This is an anime with a lot of feelings and action, but also you get to know all the main characters very well and you will start loving them for all their personalities. When you watch it you will notice why this is one of the all-time favorite animes in the world.

2. One Punch Man

Episodes: 24 Status: Ongoing Year: 2015

Saitama the most ridiculous main character ever, and at the same time the most powerful hero ever!
Saitama’s workout persists of 100 Pushups, 100 Sit-Ups, 100 Squats, and a 10KM Run every day. This is what he tells people when they ask him how he got so strong, he trained like this until his hair fell off.

Saitama is a hero for fun, seeking a real challenge, but pretty much every time he meets an enemy he DESTROYS them with a single punch (One Punch Man). In this world, there are monsters and professional heroes and then there is Saitama a hero for fun.

He lives in a one-room apartment for himself, and nobody knows who he is and that he is possibly one of the strongest people in the world. One day Saitama decides that he wants to become a “Professional Hero” after he finds out that they get paid a lot to do the work, he now sets out to become a hero.

On his way to becoming a hero he meets “Genos” an extremely powerful Cyborg who fights monsters while trying to find an evil Cyborg who killed his family. After saving Genos from a supervillain, Saitama takes on Genos as a disciple and together they start their journey to become professional heroes.

1. Hunter X Hunter 2011

Episodes: 148 Status: Ongoing Year: 2011

Hunter X Hunter 2011 my favorite anime of all time. This has not been an easy choice, I love soo many animes but this one is special to me, every single episode is just amazing.

Gon Freecss is the name of the main character, a young boy who finds out that his father (who left him when he was younger) is a “Hunter”. Hunters are licensed professional who specializes in locating rare animal species, treasure hunting, or hunting down dangerous criminals.

Soon after Gon finds out that his father is a hunter, Gon leaves his home on Whale Island to take the Hunter Examination, in order to become a hunter like him. On his travels to becoming a hunter he meets, Killua Zoldyck, Kurapika, and Leorio, 3 other people who want to become professional hunters.

On their way, they enter tournaments, fight criminals, and ends up exploring a mysterious game called “Greed Island” a very important part of the whole anime, but I won’t give away any spoilers.
